A Message from the Principal

Black History month

Dear Class of 2020, Parents and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you and your families well during these trying times. I am writing to inform you of end-of-the-year events to honor and celebrate our senior class, as well as to update you on canceled events. Wherever possible, our goal is to continue our traditions to the fullest extent while maintaining social distance as required by our Governor. To that end, please review our tentative alternative plans to celebrate our senior class accordingly:

Senior Awards:

Seniors who are receiving academic awards/scholarships will be recognized through a YouTube video celebration on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 pm. Teachers will pre-record their presentations for our award-winning seniors.

This year's prom was scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the Valley Regency in Clifton, NJ. Unfortunately, the venue will not be opened due to pandemic restrictions. While this was a tough decision to make, the prom has been canceled and full refund checks will be mailed out next week.

Senior Class Trip:

The senior class trip to Disney World Florida has been canceled. The park is still closed and there are tentative plans to re-open in phases beginning in late July. Once we receive a full refund from the hotel and park, we will be issuing checks to those seniors that paid. We are still negotiating with the airline for a monetary refund for the flight. If a monetary refund is not available, an airline voucher will be issued.

We are working on a plan to distribute senior “swag bags” containing, but not limited to, the following items:

1. Cap and Gown

2. Yearbook

3. Senior beach towel

In addition, through the Hillside Education Association, lawn signs will be delivered to all seniors on Thursday, June 4.

The most important event in honoring the class of 2020 is graduation. To that end, and in compliance with the Governor's decree, we will be holding an in-person graduation ceremony at Woodfield stadium. The date is undecided but will likely occur in July. To ensure the health of attendees, graduation will probably occur in phases:

1. Graduation 1 – beginning at 10:00 am for the first 65 seniors.

2. Graduation 2 – beginning at 1:00 pm for the second 65 seniors.

3. Graduation 3 – beginning at 4:00 pm for the last 65 seniors.

We will adjust our plans accordingly to Social Distancing guidelines outlined by the State of New Jersey.

Additional information will be sent out as we get closer to each of these milestone events. Take care and be safe!

With this letter, you will be receiving your child’s medical records for your file.
